The renowned Death Weapon Meister Academy, a technical institute run by the Shinigami—Lord Death himself—is located in Death City. Its goal was to create “Death Scythes” that the Shinigami might use to battle the numerous horrors that existed in their fictional world. However, these Death Scythes aren’t manufactured from actual blades; rather, they’re created by human-hybrid creatures that have the power to change their bodies into demonic weapons—but only after consuming the souls of 99 bad creatures and one witch.
With the aid of his scholarly wielder, or meister, Maka Albarn, Soul Eater Evans, a Demon Scythe who only seems to care about what’s hip, hopes to become a Death Scythe. Along with the fiery Black Star and his compassionate weapon Tsubaki, as well as the Shinigami’s own son Death the Kid, an obsessive-compulsive dual wielder of twin pistols Patty and Liz, the contrasted pair labor and study together.
As they undertake missions to gather souls and defend the city from external threats while cooperating beneath the snickering sun to improve their intellect, body, and soul, Soul Eater follows these Shibusen students.
